Demographic (im)balances, family solidarity and social policy

Research into connections between a given demographic situation and public policies often focuses on a particular phase in the life cycle: policies for families with small children and the birth rate; youth employment policy and demographic window of opportunity; ageing, retirement policy, and dependent person policy.
This core project studies relations between demographic balances/imbalances, family solidarity in its multiple forms, and social policy. It combines micro and macro approaches and international comparisons while attending from the outset to

  • the population pyramid as a whole and changes in generational balance;
  • the meanings of relations between demographic dynamics and social policy as they vary across the life cycle;
  • concomitant changes in family solidarity and social policy.
